Medical Electrical Upgrades
Electrical construction and service work for clinics, medical office buildings, surgical centers, and outpatient facilities across Southern California.
Electrical work built around healthcare facility requirements.
Medical facilities operate under stricter electrical requirements than standard commercial buildings. Exam rooms, procedure suites, imaging areas, and nurse stations all carry specific NEC Article 517 requirements for isolated power, equipment grounding, and emergency branch circuits that a general commercial electrician may not be familiar with. DSP’s crew has worked in these environments and understands what the inspector is looking for and what the facility manager needs to keep operations running.
We work on medical office buildings, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, ambulatory surgical centers, imaging and radiology suites, and similar healthcare occupancies throughout Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. We hold a C-10 Electrical license, carry the required insurance, and are DIR-registered — the baseline for any California public or healthcare-adjacent project.
Whether it’s a ground-up tenant improvement in a medical office building, a service upgrade to accommodate new imaging equipment, or a generator tie-in for an urgent care center, we show up prepared and keep the work coordinated with the GC, the equipment vendors, and the AHJ.
Medical electrical services.
From tenant improvement rough-in to equipment connections and life-safety systems — the day-to-day electrical scope on healthcare construction projects in SoCal.
NEC Article 517 Branch Circuits
Correct separation of normal, critical, and life-safety branches in patient care areas per NEC 517 and California Title 24. Essential branch, critical branch, and equipment branch wiring for healthcare occupancies.
Isolated Ground & Patient Equipment
Installation of isolated ground receptacles, IG panels, and patient equipment grounding points in exam rooms, procedure rooms, and wet locations per NEC 517.19 requirements.
Tenant Improvement Rough-In
Parking lot, garage, and site perimeter lighting. LED pole lights, wall packs, bollards, and landscape lighting for guest-facing exterior areas.
Generator & Transfer Switch Systems
Standby generator installation and automatic transfer switch gear for clinics and surgical centers that require emergency power for lighting, life-safety, and critical equipment circuits.
Medical Equipment Connections
Dedicated circuits and connections for imaging units (X-ray, MRI prep, CT), sterilization equipment, dental chairs, exam table outlets, and other hard-wired or cord-and-plug medical devices.
Fire Alarm & Life Safety
Fire alarm system installation, device rough-in, and coordination with the fire alarm contractor for NAC circuits, pull station and detector wiring, and panel connections in healthcare occupancies.
Healthcare facilities require more from the electrical scope. We know what Article 517 calls for.

Tenant Improvements
Medical office TIs done to code.
Medical office tenant improvements have a longer punch list than a standard commercial TI. Exam rooms need isolated ground circuits, adequate receptacle counts, and proper circuit separation. Waiting areas, nurse stations, and break rooms all have their own requirements. We read the plans, pull the permit, and do the rough-in and trim-out to what the drawings call for — not an approximation of it.
We coordinate directly with the GC schedule and stage our work so the medical equipment vendors and low-voltage subs aren’t held up. When the inspector shows up, the panel schedule matches the drawings and the circuits are labeled.
Standby & Critical Power
Emergency power for healthcare facilities.
Urgent care centers, surgical centers, and clinics with post-procedure patients on-site need a reliable path to emergency power. California requires healthcare facilities above certain thresholds to maintain emergency electrical systems per NFPA 99 and NEC 517. We install and wire the standby generator, the automatic transfer switch, and the emergency distribution equipment that feeds the life-safety and critical branch circuits.
We also handle the utility coordination for service upgrades when a facility is adding new imaging equipment or expanding its electrical load. If the existing service can’t support the new load, we size and install the upgrade and work with SCE or the relevant utility to get it done.
